Security arrangements for Muharram reviewed

KARACHI - City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that government has made foolproof security arrangements to maintain law and order during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram. He was addressing a meeting held at CDGK head office Civic Centre held to review the arrangement made for Muharram-ul-Haram. Kamal further said during the first year of his tenure as city nazim religious clerics belonging to various sects had presented details of civic problems in their areas. He added that most of those problems have been solved while the remaining one would be removed before the start of Muharram. DCO Javed Hanif, MD KWSB Ghulam Arif, DIG Traffic Wajid Durrani, town nazims, TPOs, TMOs, and other city government officers also participated in the meeting besides representatives of various Shia organisations. Mustafa Kamal said the Haq Parast leadership has carried out rapid development works in the metropolis. He added that issue like absence of streetlights, sewerage overflow, shortage of water and dilapidated roads have already been solved in a short period while the City Government has also installed video cameras on two main corridors in Karachi for Muharram-ul-Haram. He said that work on signal free corridor-III was going to begin from January and would complete by June, which would make all the way from Saddar to Safoora Goth signal free. He said that a new flyover from Korangi to Shah Faisal Colony would be opened for traffic within next 15 days. Nazim Karachi said community police could also perform duty during Muharram-ul-Haram on the request of the provincial Home Department or the Sindh Police while the CDGK ambulance service 1122 will launch operations before the start of the holy month. DIG Traffic Wajid Durrani, Senator Allama Abbas Kameli, Shabbar Raza, Syed Nayyer Zaidi, Hasan Askari Abidi, Shamul Hasan Shamsi, Dilawar Hussain, Salman Mujtaba, Allama Mirza Yousuf Hassan and others also spoke on the occasion. Representatives of Millat-e-Jaffria congratulated City Nazim for his nomination as one of the best mayors in the world. Addressing the meeting Allama Aftab Haider and Allama Mirza Yousuf Hassan said that City Nazim has served the citizens without any discrimination and under his leadership the CDGK has solved nearly all of the civic problems in the metropolis.
