KARACHI Habib Bank Ltd (HBL) first picked up the challenge to go for the winning target on the final day of the four-day contest of Pentangular Cricket Cup against Rest of Pakistan but finally settled for a draw here on Saturday at the NBP cricket stadium. Set to get 333 runs for an outright win in maximum 87 overs, the bankers picked up the gauntlet but when they lost seven wickets they decided to play out time and settle for draw. HBL had scored 299 for seven in second innings just 34 runs short of the target. Earlier in the day, RoP resuming at 424 for eight added just four more runs to the total for the remaining two wickets. Leg spinner Abdur Rehman took both the wickets to finish with five for 115. HBL after losing first wicket cheaply went for the kill when Taufique Umar and skipper Hasan Raza, who promoted himself up in the batting order, added 103 runs for the second wicket. Later in the day, the bankers again revived winning hopes when Khaqan Arsal and Kamran Hussain added 99 runs for the fifth wicket. But soon after that partnership ended, the bankers lost the hope and settled for a draw. Taufique Umar contributed 82, Hasan Raza 46, Khaqan Arsal 65 and Kamran Hussain 33. Zulfiqar Baber with his left arm spin took four for 102 taking crucial wickets. Saeed Anwar brought in bowling as 6th bowler got two for 55 and was responsible for the dimissal of Hasan Raza and Kamran Hussain.
