KARACHI - Law enforcers claimed to have killed three alleged criminals in separate encounters while arrested dozens in separate raids in Karachi on Wednesday.
An alleged gangster of Lyari was killed during an encounter with the police and rangers in Daryabad locality of Lyari.
Police said the encounter took place when police and rangers conducted a joint raid at the gangster hideout. The gangsters opened indiscriminate fire and tried to flee. SSP Sheraz Nazeer said during exchange of fire, a gangster was killed. He was later identified as Abdullah aka Haji Dad. SSP Nazeer said he was associated with the Shakil Badshah group of Lyari gangsters and was also involved in various cases of target killings, extortion and kidnapping.
Earlier, two suspects were killed during an encounter with the police in Sohrab Goth area. Police said the encounter took place when four criminals were busy looting the passersby near Jamali Mor.
Armed men opened indiscriminate fire at the police and tried to escape. In an exchange of fire, two of the four suspects were killed. DSP Qamar Ahmed said the criminals were apparently Afghan nationals but they had yet to be identified. The bodies were shifted to morgue, Sohrab Goth for identification after medicolegal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police officials also claimed to have recovered weapons from their possession.
Separately, Shershah police claimed to have arrested a notorious criminal Jangrez aka Chohta Pathan in injured condition after an exchange of fire with the police in Shershah area. Police shifted him to hospital. The accused was associated with Lyari gang and involved in various criminal cases.
Meanwhile, Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) with the support of Anti-Violent Crime Cell has recovered a young girl from Sacchal area of District Malir. The girl was missing from Faisalabad. One suspect in connection with the girl’s missing has also been arrested.
The 20-year-old girl was kidnapped on July 2, 2014. Her kidnapping case was also registered at the Millat Town police station in Faisalabad. CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy said after receiving complaint from the CPLC Faisalabad, a joint team of CPLC and AVCC started working. A joint raid was conducted in Rind Goth, Sacchal locality and they recovered a girl. They also arrested one kidnapper while further investigation was underway.
Special Investigation Unit claimed to have arrested three suspects during a targeted raid at Sharah-e-Quaideen. The arrested suspects were identified as Akbar, Naveed aka Naveedi and Danish aka Rehan. SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said the arrested persons were involved in various cases of murders and robberies. He said one of the arrested suspects, Akbar, was also involved in the target killing of EOBI assistant director Qamar Abbasi in 2013. Weapons were also recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, 28 suspects were arrested in an operation against the criminals in Hub area. ASP Hub Mavarhan Khan said huge cache of weapons and extortion money were also recovered from them.
