TTP man among 10 shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI - At least ten people, including a commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, were shot dead in separate acts of violence in Karachi on Sunday.
A TTP operative was gunned down outside his house in Kunwari Colony. Sher Alam aka Shera was vice commander of TTP for Kunwari Colony and its adjacent areas, including Manghopir and Sultanabad, and used to hold jirgas. Police said he was charged with corruption by his companions as he did not transfer total amount of extortion money to Waziristan.
SHO Abdul Moeed said TTP men took him to an unknown place on Saturday night where a jirga was held over the issue. Later they shot him dead in front of his residence. The official further said the victim was wanted to police in over a dozen cases of targeted killings of law enforcers. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy, and later handed over to the heirs. Investigation is in an advanced stage.
Separately, a worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, namely Haider Ghani, was mowed down outside his residence in sector 5/E, New Karachi. SHO Changaiz Khan said the victim, also an employee of the water board, was targeted by unidentified attackers. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later handed over to the heirs.
Separately, two friends were shot dead and three others wounded in a firing near Murtaza Chowrangi in Landhi area. The victims were identified as Ashiq Allah Dino and Yousuf Abdul Samad, and the injured as Ghulam Mustafa, his brother, Ghulam Rasool and Syed Salim. The dead and the injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and medical treatment. Police said the incident took place when a clash ensued between two rival groups during a wedding ceremony in Landhi area. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
Separately, a transporter, Amjad Sultan, was gunned down outside his residence in Musharraf Colony. Following the murder, police detained a police constable, Shabbir, and his son, Khawar, over their suspected involvement in the murder. Police said the arrested cop, who had been posted to the Baloch Colony Police Station, killed the victim over a monetary dispute.
Separately, an additional SHO of the Darakshan Police Station was wounded and his brother and a friend lost their lives apparently in an act of targeted killing in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. Additional SHO, sub-inspector Adeel Elahi, was shot twice in the chest and was admitted to a nearby private hospital. His brother, Atif Khan, and a companion, Ali Raza, succumbed to their injuries. The bodies were taken to JPMC for autopsy. Police said the victims were sitting near a bakery when unidentified armed men opened fire on them and fled. Initial investigation suggested the victims were drinking wine when the incident took place. Police recovered at least eight empty shells from the crime spot that were sent to forensic division of Sindh Police. The motive behind the attack could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
Body of a labourer namely Dalil Bakhsh was recovered from Saudabad area. Family of the victim said Bakhsh went missing after he left home on Saturday evening.
Police said the victim had been shot in the head. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.
Another man was found dead in Ghanchi Para area. Initial investigation suggested the victim was shot dead after being kidnapped. Identification of the victim could not be ascertained. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
Similarly, a young man was found dead in SITE area. Police said the victim was tortured to death and it seemed he was killed after being kidnapped.
