One killed, 8 wounded in grenade attack

KARACHI – Unidentified bike-borne duo hurled a hand grenade at a tea stall in Dawood Chowrangi area on Wednesday, killing a man and wounding eight others, said a senior police official. DSP Rao Iqbal said the grenade, which was thrown from the bridge under which the sea stall was established, was Russian made. According to him, the aim behind the attack was to spread panic in the area.JPMC emergency ward head, Seemi Jamali, said they received one body and eight people with critical burn injuries. The deceased was identified as Wajahat, 35, a waiter. He was a resident of Qauidabad and hailed from Quetta. The injured included Faizullah, Yasir, Nasir, Muhammad Sadiq, Bashir Ahmad and Javed. Following the attack, shopkeepers took to streets and started marching towards National Highway to express their anger over the killing, prompting gridlocks for hours. A heavy contingent of the Rangers and police rushed and brought the situation under control.No case was registered till the filing of this report.
