CDGK has links with land mafia: Opposition

KARACHI - Opposition leaders in the City council said that they wanted to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the City and ghastly murder of Nisar Baloch, who was struggling to save the land of Gutter Baghicha to the land grabbers but the session was deliberately adjourned, they alleged. Addressing a press conference at Opposition chamber, immediately after the session was adjourned on Monday, Al-Khidmat Group leader Muhammad Rafique said that Nisar Baloch was a true social worker who fought his whole life against the illegal occupation of public land and amenity plots for which the land mafia had killed him because he had named the land mafia two days before his murder in a press conference. Ahmed demanded of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and Sindh government to arrest Balochs killers and take effective measures for the protection of the Gutter Baghicha from the land mafia. He criticised CDGK and Sindh government for not showing interest to nab the killers and have been trying to shed their responsibilities. He demanded of the government should name the Gutter Baghicha after Nisar Baloch. Addressing the press conference, PPP-backed Awam Dost Group and Deputy Opposition leader in the City Council Muhammad Jumman Darwan claimed that the CDGK had links with the land mafia that killed Nisar Baloch. Darwan added that the land mafia is illegally occupying all parks, playgrounds and amenity plots in the City and has sent a message in terms of Nisar Balochs murder that anyone who would speak against them would be silenced. He also claimed that the family of the deceased Nisar Baloch has identified the killers so that the government should proceed accordingly to arrest the culprits. Al-Khidmat Group member Saifuddin criticised the Sindh government for lifting ban on lease and awarding CDGK with leasing powers which could result in lease of residential plots on the Gutter Baghicha. Nasim Khan of Awami National Partys Khidmatgaar Group demanded of the Sindh government to withdraw the lease powers from the CDGK or else it would meant that the lease on any illegal plot could be given to anyone. Khan added that no government could change the status of amenity plots but the land mafia was doing so to please the selective people. ANPs Khidmatgaar Group leader Dr Ziauddin Ahmed demanded of the Sindh government to withdraw lease powers from the CDGK. Ahmed alleged that the Site Towns officer maintenance and repair has been demarcating the plots against amenity plots in Site Town, which was illegal and the Sindh government should take notice of it. PPPs Awam Dost Group member Yasmeen Butt alleged that the land mafia has illegally occupied the plots which were reserved for throwing garbage.
