KARACHI - The trader fraternity of the City welcomed the judicial ruling against the ban on motorbike riding announced by Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik citing spy reports of terrorism threats for Friday.It should be mentioned here that Federal Minister Malik on Thursday night said the government had decided to impose a ban on motorcycle ride in Karachi and Quetta on the first day of the holy month of Muharram, keeping in view the reports about terror threats. He said the ban will be effective from 6am to 7pm.Some hours later following the proclamation of the ban yesterday, Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC) Justice Mushir Alam suspended the orders, triggering a wave of happiness among people especially trader organizations.Having suspended the orders, the SHC’s chief justice issued notices to Sindh Advocate General and provincial police chief to appear before the court this morning.Leaders including President Karachi Electronics Dealer Association Muhammed Idrees, Chairman Small Traders Muhammed Irfan and All Tajir Ittehad leader Ateeq Mir said the SHC Chief Justice spared the national economy a loss worth four billion rupees. Trader organizations said they cannot abide by the orders regarding pulling their shops’ shutters down at 5pm, demanding the government to revisit this order. The trader organizations announced to open all markets as usual in the city.Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has once again dared the federal and provincial governments to resign for failing to safeguard the lives of citizens against terrorism.Altaf in a statement issued here said, “A government that cannot provide its citizens the protection it promises has no right to stay in power.” He expressed his grief and sorrow on the martyrdom of three Rangers and injuries to several others. He said that terrorists wanted to create instability in the country by carrying out such cowardly acts in order to achieve their nefarious designs. He sympathised with the grieving families of the personnel martyred in the blast and prayed for speedy recovery and well-being of the injured.Altaf called upon the government to take serious notice of the blast at the Rangers Headquarters.He called for solid steps for eliminating terrorists and for protecting the life and property of the public. He said that the terrorists involved in the blasts should be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment.
