No chlorine in water samples collected in five towns

KARACHI – While the recent 10 deaths from the fatal brain disease of Naegleria Fowleri have leapt to national attention, the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board remains unnerved and continues supplying non-chlorinated water to almost all the towns. According to sources, samples of water taken from different towns for quality assessment contained absolutely no chlorine, an agent that serves as a shield against the brain-eating amoeba.  According to report issued on Tuesday by the the Naegleria Fowleri Monitoring Cell, as many as 63 water samples tested under the supervision of the Quality Control & Regulation Department had no chlorine. Twenty-three water samples were collected from Bin Qasim Town, and 10 each from Liaquatabad Town, Gulberg Town, North Nazimabad Town, and Orangi Town.  As many as 10 people died of naegleria fowleri from July 7 to October 3, 2012.
