WHO worker among 5 shot dead

KARACHI – Five people were gunned down in separate incidents of violence here on Monday. A worker of World Health Organisation (WHO) was shot dead in Dildar Umrani Goth, located within the remits of Sohrab Goth police station. Police said that he was on way to home after duty when some unidentified gunmen riding a motorbike shot him dead and managed to flee. The deceased was a member of the anti-polio team working in Gadap Town. The body of the deceased was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors handed it over to the family after autopsy. A man was gunned down while another wounded at Shahra-e-Orangi in Orangi Town police precincts.Police said that the victim namely Ali Raza, 21, son of Shahzad Raza, was going to his workplace along with his friend namely Farhan Faisal when some unidentified armed riders came close to them and opened fire. Resultantly, they sustained multiple bullet injuries. Police rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced the death of Ali and admitted Farhan for medical treatment. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.A bullet-riddled body of a young man was found near Al-Makkah Kanta police post, Jahanabad area within the jurisdiction of Pak Colony police station.Police said that unidentified assailants kidnapped the victim from somewhere and later threw his body at the said place after torture. Police shifted the body to morgue for identification after completing medicolegal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi.A scrape trader was shot dead in Sher Shah Market within the remits of Sher Shah police station. Police said that the victim identified as Agha Rasheed, a resident of Metroville Site, was going to his workplace when some unidentified bandits came close to him and tried to snatch his motorbike. On showing resistance, the bandits opened fire on him. He sustained a bullet in his chest and died on the spot while the bandits easily managed to flee from the scene after snatching the victim’s motorbike. On the other side, a man was shot dead in firing took place at a Herbal Clinic within the remits of Sharafi Goth police station.Police said that Javaid Anwar, a herbal doctor, was present at his clinic located near Gujjar Mor, Sharafi Goth where gunmen reached and shot him multiple times. Police said that motive behind the killing was sectarian as the deceased belonged to Shia community.  Meanwhile, police claimed to have killed an alleged bandit in an encounter at North Nazimabad area within the limits of Taimoria police station. Police said that two bandits were busy looting valuables from the citizens when police reached the spot and tried to intercept them where bandits offered resistance and started firing.A bandit was gunned down during the exchange of fire while his accomplice managed to flee from the scene.Police shifted the injured bandit to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced his death. Police also recovered a TT pistol from his possession. Later, police shifted the body to morgue for identification.
