Stronger units for a stronger centre

KARACHI (APP) - Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has said that more stronger a unit will be, more stronger will be the center. "Centre and the provinces can be made stronger by empowerment of common man at the grass root level and this way not only centre will be stable but inter-provincial harmony will also be stable". He was talking to the participants of National Security Workshop who called on him at Governor House Saturday. Replying a question, the Governor said all political parties have concensus on the issue of provincial autonomy. He observed that with just distribution of resources besides water accord and NFC will lead to strengthening of centre. He said dialogue on these issues is in progress and a positive outcome is certain. The Governor pointed out that with Local Government system, the districts government got autonomy and improvement took place. The districts, he said, wants to bring improvement in the sectors of health, education etc in keeping with their environment and resources. He was of the view that negative trends can be washed away and inter-provincial harmony augmented by resolving the outlying issues with patience and justice. "When districts and provinces would be able to serve their people, it will have positive impact on entire country and result in stability of centre". Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad told the visitors that MQM is the only party which, while remaining in power, won mandate more than ever before for the future while generally the parties world over lose in elections. Replying a question about Talibanization in Karachi, he said the entire country is faced with this issue and faced terrorism internationally. He said Karachi is the economic hub and backbone of the country and from this point of view also a target of anti-Pakistan and terrorist elements. "If any act is committed here, then whole country suffers the damage", he said and informed that from the criminals arrested from Karachi recently have given evidence of their linkage with terrorists. He pointed out that Karachi has an enormous population and if negative elements get themselves are assimilated here, then it going to be a hard task to fish them out. In order to thwart such nefarious designs and to make the entire country secured, it is essential for law enforcing organizations to identify such elements, he added. He said MQM is a major political stake holder in the province and it is its responsibility to play its role in this respect and participation of people too proves important for elimination of criminal and terrorist elements. He said it is a natural phenomenon if affected people come to their relatives in Karachi from Northern Areas. But, if the elements who wants to create same distrubed situation here, their segregation is imperative for the country and its people. The Governor said Pakhtoon brothers are living in Karachi since years and it would be wrong to have a negative impression about them. He said that large scale development activities are taking place in Karachi and most of the payments of 350 billion rupees have been made to Pakhtoon brothers for their services by the city government. "The people of Karachi wants to live together and are united", he said and added that opposing elements wants to exploit this sensitive area and cause harm to the country. Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad described poverty an important issue of the country and said those distrubed areas are particularly affected and, therefore, emphasis is being laid on rural and agriculture economy. He said there is need to work more in every sector as by this way alone the gap and backlog of the past can be bridged. He called for preferably doing work to make the environment conducive.
