KARACHI - Aashar Hanif of Lahore Gymkhana holed in one to win an expensive Toyota car in the opening round of the three-day 54-hole Chief of Naval Staff Pakistan Open Golf here on Friday at the lush green Karachi Golf Club. He holed the ball in one single shot on par three 148 yards hole 17 on the back nine to take home Rs 1.899 million vehicle. However at the end of day in the first round he finished at 10 over 82 on 85th place. Mohammed Siddique of LyallPur Golf Club jumped on the top of the leader board in the lucrative prize money Rs 2.5 million in style by playing in a superb round of five under-par 67. Ranked among top 10 professionals in Pakistan, Siddique demonstrated great accuracy, hitting and putting to gain one stroke lead in the richest ever competition of Pakistan. After making one birdie on front nine score of 35, Siddique was even in a better touch adding four birdies at the back nine score of 32 thus finishing first round by scoring 67. Shahid Javed Khan of Royal Palm Golf Club followed him with four under 68. His first day score included three birdies and one bogey at front nine and two birdies at back nine to score 68. Matloob of Lahore Gymkhana Club' played at the front nine with score of 35 with one bogey and three birdies and scored 70. The defending Champion Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad Golf Club also finished 1st round with 70 with three birdies and. one bogey. Among the seniors Pros, Ghani Khan of Arabian Sea Country Club is leading with Gross 74 and is being desperately chased by Mohammed Iqbal, Mohammed Ilyas, Asghar Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed, all from Lahore Gymkhana Club with gross score of 75. The weather of Karachi initially sunny till noon with moderate temperature turned cloudy with slight breeze presenting ideal conditions for the players. In the afternoon, the weather became pleasant when it started to drizzle which resulted in decrease of temperature. Amateur category match is still in progress.
