PPP in favour of removing Musharraf, says Siddiqui

KARACHI - Secretary-General of the PPP Nafees Siddiqui said that the PPP was in favour to remove President Pervez Musharraf according to the constitution. Addressing a press conference at his residence on Tuesday, he strongly criticised the attitude of those political and religious parties who were trying to use the lawyers' long march to achieve their agenda. He said that these political parties had their own agenda and they just wanted to destabilise the parliamentary democracy in the country. He said such parties were against the parliament, democracy and political process, as they had no interest in this system. Siddiqui said that the PPP wanted restoration of judges with the constitutional package. Appreciating the lawyers movement, he cautioned the lawyers' leaders not to allow such parties to take advantage of their struggle. He announced that the PPP had decided to not celebrate the birth anniversary of late Benazir Bhutto. "It is decided that no cake will be cut and no musical function will be held on this occasion." He said PPP would organise a public meeting at Nishtar Park on June 29 to pay tributes to late leader and her sacrifices. He said Quran Khawani and Fateha would be held in Larkana on June 21 while a public gathering would be held on June 20 in Karachi at Annu Bhai Park, Nazimabad. Waqar Mehdi and Yousuf Baloch were also present on the occasion.
