KARACHI - A protest demonstration was staged on Friday by the journalists in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Saturday against attack on the staffers of Express News channel and killing of three colleagues. Officer bearers of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Karachi Union of Journalists and Karachi Press Club as well as political leaders attended the demonstration.PFUJ’s Secretary General Khurshid Abbasi, Karachi Press Club’s President Imtiaz Khan Faran, Secretary General Amir Latif, Saeed Sarbazi, Karachi Union of Journalists’ President G.M Jamali, KUJ-Dastoor leader Rizwan Bhatti and others led the protest demonstration. Besides, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr Arif Alvi, Justice (r) Wajihuddin Ahmed, MNA Lal Malhi, PTI’s provincial assembly members Samar Ali Khan, Dr Seema Zia, Khuram Sher Zaman, MQM leader Wasay Jalil, PPP Karachi Division chief Abdul Qadir Patel and others participated in the demonstration and condemned the attack on journalists. They demanded the government to find an effective solution to eliminate terrorism from the country and take steps to protect journalists.They termed the attack on the journalists and new channel a blow to the freedom of press and tantamount to stopping journalists to disseminate truth. The journalist leaders also criticized the Sindh government for its failure in giving protection to journalists in line of duty. The journalists demanded both the federal and Sindh governments to give protection to media workers and their organisations and award punishment to culprits involved in this heinous act.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
