Two Lyari gangsters, one TTP man killed  in encounters

KARACHI - The law enforcers claimed to have killed an alleged operative of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and two Lyari gangsters in encounters. A local commander of TTP was killed when police and Rangers conducted a joint operation in Musharraf Colony of Mauripur.  The victim Taliban commander was said to be associated with the Maulvi Khalid group of TTP. He was later identified as Zohair aka Salman. The body was shifted to morgue after medicolegal formalities completed at Civil HospitalKarachi. Two hand grenades and a Kalashnikov were also recovered from his possession.
Law enforcers claimed to have recovered a hit-list comprising the names of several political leaders including Farooq Sattar and Haider Abbas Rizvi of MQM, Bashir Jan of ANP and Faisal Raza Abidi of PPP.
“He was involved in killing around 15 soldiers of army and Frontier Constabulary in North Waziristan,” Rangers spokesperson claimed. “Besides killing army and FC personnel, he was also involved in kidnapping for ransom and extortion in the City.”
The victim militant was involved in generating funds to finance terrorism. The encounter took place when the Rangers, along with the police, conducted a raid at his hideout on a tip-off.
Similarly, two alleged gangsters were killed in an encounter with the Rangers and police in old city area. Rangers officials said two gangsters were killed after an exchange of fire near Civil Hospital. “The culprits had arrived to collect the extortion money from the trader when the encounter took place,” police said.
Police and rangers took positions to capture the extortionists. When the gangsters saw the law enforces, they tried to escape while opening indiscriminate fire. As result, the encounter took place and both the gangsters were killed while another was arrested in injured condition. Weapons were also recovered from their possession. The victim gangsters were later identified as Sameer and Rizwan who were associated with the Mullah Nisar gang of Lyari and had been involved in a number of cases of crime.
Meanwhile, over one dozen suspects including members of the militant outfit were arrested during an operation conducted by the rangers in the stronghold areas of Taliban – Kunwari Colony and Manghopir. Rangers spokesperson said the members of the militant outfit were also among the detainees. The operation was conducted on a tip-off about the presence of suspected militants. Huge cache of weapons was also recovered from their possession.
