KARACHI - Lyari echoed with gun-shots on Sunday night following the target killing of Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) leader Rasheed alias builder at Ghausia Road, Agra Taj Colony within the limits of Kalri police station.
Rasheed’s security guard Zubair and a police cop were also killed in the attack while four more people also sustained bullet injuries. The bodies and the injured persons were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi for medico-legal formalities and treatment where scores of KRC workers also reached and shouted slogans against the outlawed Peoples Aman Committee.
Rasheed was sitting at his office resultantly, he and his guard died on the spot while few others were injured.
KRC leaders strongly condemned the incident and demanded of the government to take stern action against the People’s Aman Committee.
KRC leader Daud Katchi said that deceased Rasheed was associated with the construction business and People’s Aman Committee is involved in the incident. He said that the Committee wants the elimination of KRC and that is why they are attacking and killing KRC people constantly.
The other injured persons included ASI Khalil of the Kalri police station, Ibrahim, Tahir and Babar.
They were admitted to the hospital. According to eye witnesses, the victims were sitting and watch the cricket match when the culprits targeted them and easily managed to escape from the scene.
Following the incident, the cross-firing started in parts of Lyari including Agra Taj Colony, Daryabad, Nayabad, Khadda Market, Katchi Memon Society, Alfalah Road and Bihar Colony.
A heavy contingent of the law-enforcers including Rangers and police also rushed the affected areas but were unable to control the situation.
Later, during treatment ASI Khalil also succumbed to his injuries.
DIG South Commandant Shaukat said police cop was sitting with Rasheed Builder and he was also deployed for his security.
Scores of KRC men and victims relatives alongwith the bodies of the deceased persons gathered onto the main Maripur road to stage a protest against the incident.
They blocked the main road which also caused massive traffic jam while the heavy contingent of law-enforcement personnel reached the site to negotiate with the protesters.
