KARACHI - Rangers have arrested a key suspect involved in the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zahra Shahid Hussain.
They carried out intelligence-based surgical action near Teen Talwar area of Clifton and arrested Kaleem, a target killer allegedly involved in numerous murder cases including of the PTI leader.
The accused person has been handed over to the police. Rangers have also recovered weapons from his possession.
PTI leader Zahra Hussain was shot dead outside her residence in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on May 18, 2013 - the day of re-polling in the constituency of NA-250. Following the killing, skirmishes between PTI and MQM sparked. The PTI leadership accused Altaf Hussain for her killing.
Trial of the murder has been continuing in an anti-terrorism court. The police have already booked two others in the murder. Some four absconders implicated in Zahra’s murder case were declared proclaimed offenders by the court.
The absconders included Junaid Bukhari, Tariq Nawaz, Asif aka Ganja and Irfan aka Lamba.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of MQM said that MQM worker Abdul Kaleem was arrested on February 25 from his shop in Gulf Shopping Mall, Clifton while Rangers claimed that he was arrested on March 18, 2015 from Teen Talwar.
He informed that Kaleem’s mother Qafia Begum had submitted a petition and a judicial bench of two judges Justice Aleem Sheikh and Justice Iqbal Kulhurho was formed to hear the disappearance of Kaleem. He expressed wonder that Rangers showed Kaleem’s arrest on Wednesday for Zahra Shahid murder case. He requested the media outlets to behave responsibly and investigate the incidents regarding the issue.
CONSTABLE KILLED IN ATTACK
Police claimed to have gunned two militants involved in the attack on police personnel here in Pirabad police precincts. Police said militants riding a motorbike targeted the police personnel at Banaras Bridge and fled.
One police constable Sajid Mehmood died and another Qadeer Alam was wounded in the incident. Gunmen managed to flee. Police chased them and located their hideout at Manghopir area. Police rushed to the spot where during an encounter, police killed two attackers of TTP. The militants were identified as Nasir Khan and Itwar Khan, residents of Pathan Colony.
Meanwhile, the Karachi divisional and district administrations challaned 59 shopkeepers and imposed a fine of Rs146,000 while four were arrested and sent to jail for violating the official price list for edible items, said Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui here on Wednesday.
Total 32 milk sellers, 17 grocers, five chicken sellers, three vegetable retailers and two fruit sellers were challaned and fined, he said in a statement.
The profiteers were fined in areas including Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad Memon Goth, Model Colony, Shah Faisal, Saddar, Aram Bagh, Civil Lines, Garden, Jamshed Quarters, Gulzar Hijri, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Landhi, Airport, South, Central, West, East, Malir and Korangi in an ongoing crackdown against them. The administrative officers have been assigned permanent duties at the time of auction in wholesale markets of fruits and vegetables to curb artificial shortage of commodities, he said.
