2 cops among 7 killed in Karachi

KARACHI - Seven people, including two policemen lost their lives while an inspector was wounded in separate incidents here on Monday.
Some pillion riders opened indiscriminate fire on the police picket. At the time of the incident, policemen were busy doing snap checking near Nadria Hotel in Nazimabad No 2.
Two cops, including Rahat, 40, and Siddique, 50, died on the spot while a sub-inspector Mir Muhammad sustained serious bullet wounds. After being informed, heavy contingent of police and rangers rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Doctors pronounced both the police constables dead and termed the condition of injured police officer critical. Police were collected some evidences from the crime scene and had also seized at least 16 empty shells of 9mm bullet rounds. Police said the victim policemen were trying to intercept the armed riders during snap checking when the culprits opened fire on them and managed to escape from the scene.
Separately, a man namely Sheharyar alias Sherry and Mallu were shot dead in Sector 11 of Orangi Town area. Police officials said Sheharyar was the police informer and another victim was a cable operator by profession. Police officials said the victims were sitting in the area when two armed men riding a motorcycle came close to them and escaped after shooting.
Similarly, a rickshaw driver namely Ali was shot dead in Altaf Nagar area. Police said the victim was on his way when some unidentified armed riders shot in his head and escaped from the scene. However, police have yet to be ascertained the motive behind the incident.
In another incident, Akbar, 28, was shot dead in Eidu Lane, Lyari within the jurisdictions of Baghdadi police station. Police said Lyari gangsters were involved in the incident. They killed the victim on suspicion of being a police informant. Also in Lyari, another man who has yet to be identified was shot dead near Juna Masjid within the jurisdiction of Kalri police station.
