Law and order to be ensured in Lyari

KARACHI - Lyari has always been the strong hold of PPP but some unscrupulous elements were trying to disturb the peace of the area for their nefarious design. They must keep in mind that their dream to take over Lyari will not materialize, said Sindh Minister for Katchi Abadis and Spacial Development Rafique Eng while talking to The Nation here on Wednesday. The people of Lyari had always supported the PPP and would remain loyal to the party, which had always fought for the rights of the area and worked for its development. Who could forget the overwhelming victory that various political leaders including Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Zardari had gained from Lyari, he added. He said that he could feel the pain of the families who lost their dear ones recently, adding that he had sympathised with them from the core of heart. These families along with their members had remained staunch voters of the PPP, which had created political awareness among the masses. It was in 1970 that the PPP founding chairperson Shaheed Z.A Bhutto paid special attention to the people of backward area in the City. These poor people came forward in thousands to support the egalitarian agenda of the party, which has special place in the hearts of the population, he said. He recalled that at a meeting chaired by PPP Co-Chairperson President Asif Ali Zardari, it was decided to expand Lyari General Hospital and equip it with the modern labs and other technology. He said that people of Lyari would be given priority in the recruitment for the hospital. He said that he had briefed the President on various problems faced by the Lyari and requested him to solve them on priority basis. The President at the meeting announced that the federal government would set up a medical college and a university in the locality. He said that Sindh government had already been committed to construct Law College to be named after Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Law College. He further claimed that an amount Rs200 millions had been allocated for this purpose. The other development schemes included Lyari Mater Plan, Housing schemes, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Girls College. Women Polytechnic College has already been constructed and its SNE will be approved soon. The permanent Project Director for Lyari will be appointed soon, he added. He said that unemployed youth of Lyari would be given priority in job opportunities. He said that the President had emphasised for maintenance of law and order in the area to ensure foolproof security to the elected representatives of Lyari.
