10 die in Lyari truck plunge

KARACHI  - Five minor among 10 people were killed when a speedy truck fell in the Lyari riverbed in PIB Police precincts.
Police said a mini pickup truck carrying the whole family, hailed from Balochistan, was going to Lee Market from Sohrab Goth when a speedy truck over turned and fell into the riverbed.
Rescuers rushed to the spot and shifted 16 victims to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced the death of 10 people including five children. The victims were identified as Afsheen, Noreen, Safia, Nasreen, Samreen and children including Babul, Haris, Farooq, Hoor Bibi and Anisha.
According to MLO Aftab Channar, five women and five children were killed in the accident. According to the hospital officials, the victims were relatives and were going to Lee Market from where they had to travel to Quetta. SHO Asif Munawar said the search for the driver was continued.
SIX KIDNAPPERS HELD, MAN RECOVERED
Six kidnappers were apprehended and an abducted person was recovered during a raid at Kati Pahari area on Wednesday.
The raid was conducted by the Rangers in Muhammad Pur area of Kati Pahari on a tip-off. Sources said one abducted person was recovered safely and six kidnappers were apprehended. They said explosives and weapons were also recovered from possession of the suspects, however, their identities and affiliations with the group were not disclosed.
Earlier, eight suspects were detained during a targeted raid by the police and the Rangers in Lyari on Wednesday. Police sources said Murtaza, brother of a political party’s leader, Bilal Sindhi, was among the detainees. They were apprehended during a joint raid in Lyari’s Baghdadi area, however, the officials concerned did not confirm the news when contacted.
