Don’t be hate-mongers, govt asks nationalists

KARACHI - Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch has said that no IDP of North Waziristan has arrived in Sindh, however, if any affectee comes he would be returned soon so Sindh nationalists must stay away from creating hatred on this issue. Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, he said the federal government would bear the financial burden of IDPs of North Waziristan.
He disclosed about the lukewarm response from the business community of Karachi about contributing financially to help the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan. He, however, announced that federal government is ready to bear the financial burden to help the IDPs on its own.
The federal minister said at least one million people left the area after the war. He unveiled that majority of the IDPs refused to live in the camps as they preferred to stay with their relatives or on their own. He disclosed that only 200 to 300 IDPs are staying in the camps in KPK.  Baloch added that financial expenditures could reach to Rs30 billion on the IDPs if they stay away from their homes for next six months.
He said no appeal had been made to the international donors to help the IDPs and if any such need arises then government would take decision about it. However, he declared that they would prefer generating resources within Pakistan to help the IDPs rather than seeking the international help. He added that each family will be given Rs2,000 per month and Rs400,000 will be provided to those whose houses have been destroyed. The families whose homes were partially destroyed will get Rs100,000.
