Nasreen for protection of mangroves at City coast

Karachi (PPI) - City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil has observed that to protect Karachi from sea storms it is imperative to take solid practical measures for the protection of mangrove forests. This she observed while talking to journalists after inspecting affected mangrove forest in union council 4, Kaemari Town on Monday. She inspected the affected forests via launch and expressed concern over the situation. Nasreen Jalil said - In the past forest alongside of Netive Jetti and Mai Kolachi were removed, and now mangrove forests, which protect Karachi from sea storm besides promoting fishing industry are being cut in UC-4 besides Baba and Bhitt Islands, which is a matter of great concern. She said owing to negligence of the departments concerned, the mangrove forests are being destroyed, adding this menace could result in major disaster as these forests play imperative role to overcome threat like Tsunami. Nasreen Jalil called upon the government and Karachi Port Trust to take notice of illegal cutting of mangrove trees and adopt a comprehensive system of surveillance and patrolling, which could bring to end removing of these important mangrove forests, besides ensuring their protection. Government should also focus on other amenities of the people besides adopting comprehensive measures for the protection of these mangrove forests, she added. Nazim Kaemari Town Humaiyon Khan, UC-4 Nazim Muhammad Hanif, Labor Councilor Haji Yousuf and members of city council were also present on the occasion. UC-4 Nazim Muhammad Hanif apprised City Naib Nazim about the cutting of mangrove forests during her visit.
