KARACHI - Pakistan Army soldiers were deployed in and around the prisons in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur in order to beef up security before execution of militants in the province.
Security sources privy to the development told The Nation that the decision to beef up security at the aforementioned prisons was taken in the backdrop of ongoing executions and security threats.
“The deployment was made after requests from the local administration,” they said, adding exact figures for the deployment could not be made public due to security concerns.
Meanwhile, people have been asked to keep an eye on suspicious persons and inform about any activities of terrorists on the army helpline 1135.

Four people including a worker of religious party and a woman were killed in separate incidents here on Saturday.
A worker of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was gunned down in Korangi area. Police said the victim identified as Saeed Salam, 25, was sitting at his electric shop at Bengali Para, Noorani Basti in Korangi. Two unidentified assailants targeted him and later managed to escape on a motorbike. A passerby, Ayub Noor, 20, was also wounded in the incident. They were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Similarly, Hafiz Jamshed, 32, was shot dead in North Karachi area. Police said the victim was associated with the transport business. At least two armed culprits riding a motorcycle shot him dead over unexplained reasons. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
Separately, a man who has yet to be identified was found dead from Korangi area. Police said the body was at least four days old. Unidentified persons tortured the victim severely after kidnapping. They also burnt the body to hide the identification. The body was shifted to morgue for identification.
Meanwhile, a woman was found dead from Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The victim has yet to be identified. The body was also shifted to morgue for identification. Police said unidentified persons tortured her to death after kidnapping and later dumped her body in a nullah. Further investigation is underway. In Lyari, two suspected gangsters were killed during an encounter with the law enforcement agencies. The gangsters were later identified as Salman alias Shooter and Tahir. The encounter took place when the law enforcers conducted a raid at Niazi Chowk area of Lyari. Both the gangsters were wanted in several cases of crime.
Five CRIME BRANCH
PERSONNEL BOOKED
Five personnel of Crime Branch were booked in a case of kidnapping for ransom here on Saturday.
Two of the nominated policemen were arrested while the remaining three have yet to be arrested. ASI Sarfaraz, head Constable, Ather Butt and three constables Zameer, Abdul Latif and Shahid were accused of demanding ransom after abduction of a resident of Korangi, Saleem, by exposing themselves as the officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Reacting on information, FIA raided the Crime Branch and recovered the abductee. Crime Branch police have registered an FIR against the accused policemen and also arrested two of the five nominated accused, Sarfaraz and Zameer. Efforts to make the arrest of absconding policemen were underway.
