At least eight people, including two political activists were killed in various incidents of violence here Monday.
A local leader of the Sindh National Movement was shot dead near Metrological Department in Gulistan-e-Jauhar within the limits of Mobina Town Police Station.
SHO Jamal Leghari said two unidentified assailants opened fire on the leader when he was on his way on motorcycle, killing him on the spot. The assailants managed to escape while the victim was shifted to hospital. Following the incident, scores of his party workers and supporters gathered in the area and staged a protest, demanding the government to take notice of the murder and stern action against the elements involved.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse the mob. An exchange of fire took place between the protesters and policemen in SHO Sachal Goga Saqib sustained injuries. Meanwhile, scores of protesters were arrested by police. In another incident, an MQM worker, Mohammad Jamal, was shot dead in a firing incident at Iqbal Market in Orangi Town. SHO Amjad Kiyani said the deceased on his way to work when two armed men on a motorcycle shot him dead. Separately, a man identified as Junaid Gul was shot dead by armed men in Nazimabad. Police said the deceased was heading towards his residence when two armed men riding a motorcycle intercepted his car and shot him dead on the spot.
Mehtabuddin, 34, was shot dead in Khokhrapar area. Police officials said the deceased was sitting outside his home when unidentified armed men on a motorcycle shot and killed him.
An employee of a private insurance company was shot dead on Shara-e-Liaquat within Mithadar Police limits. SHO Zafar Iqbal said Yaqoob Ali Jan was lift operator at the Estate Life Building.
He said two robbers intercepted Yaqoob and shot him dead when he offered resistance.
Khalid Mehmood, a property dealer, was shot dead near Falak Naz Apartment on Shara-e-Faisal within Airport police remits.
SHO Ghaffar Korai said the deceased was on his way to home in Al-Falah Society, Malir when two motorcyclists gunned him down.
Another man identified as Hamid was shot dead by armed men in Golimar locality within Rizvia police remits. SHO Naveed Nasir said the incident took place when two armed men riding a motorcycle targeted him.
