Altaf slams political leaders' silence over Sufi's remarks

KARACHI - MQM chief Altaf Hussain has expressed his concern over the silence of political and religious leaders on the open threats of TNSM leader Sufi Muhammad. It is pertinent to mention earlier Sufi Muhammad had termed the provincial and national assemblies, senate, lawyers fraternity, supreme courts and the high courts, the unanimously agreed Constitution of 1973, democratic and judicial system, and democracy as infidel (kufr) and un-Islamic. In his statement issued on Tuesday, he asked why these political and religious parties and its leaders for the perpetuation of their rule and in their party interest organise huge public gatherings, rallies, protest demonstrations, sit-ins and long march to register their protest a thousand times but were silent on the threatening statement of Sufi Muhammad. He questioned why the bar councils and lawyers are silent? He asked the patriotic Pakistanis to question their respective political and religious leaders over their silence and demand why they were showing negligence. Altaf said that the world media today writing volumes on Pakistans stability and integrity saying that Pakistan was on the brink of fracturing into fiefdoms. In such a situation only the army, law enforcement agencies, police and MQM alone could not save the country, unless the people themselves practically get involved in the process of rescuing the country. He warned that if Pakistan is faced with any threat and damage, then not only the foreign powers but also all the political and religious parties and their leaders who are criminally silent today would be equally responsible. He appealed to the patriotic Pakistanis to consider this as an SOS (Save our Souls) appeal and come forward to save the country. Meanwhile, Altaf vehemently condemned the killing of Asad Zaidi, deputy speaker of Northern Areas assembly. In a statement, he demanded of the government to investigate the incident and immediately arrest the terrorists involved in the killing of Asad Zaidi and his associate.
