Parties to set up protest camp

KARACHI - Leaders of different political and religious parties have announced setting up a protest camp outside the office of the Provincial Election Commission from January 23 (tomorrow) against the violation of Supreme Court verdict over the voters’ verification.The decision was made during a meeting headed by JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mahenti at Idara Noor-e-Haq, on Monday.The leaders of political and religious parties including Saleem Zia of PML-N, Hafeezuddin of PTI, Mustaqeem Noorani of JUP, Maulana Ghulam Mustafa Farooqui of JUI-S, Basharat Mirza of PDP, Mazhar Rahoja of Awami Tehreek, Matloob Awan of ST, Dr Saleh Zahoor of PML (Sher-e-Bangal) and others attended the meeting.The leaders said that the SC verdict was not being implemented in its true spirit, as the Pakistan Army personnel were not taking part in the voters’ verification process.They expressed their deep reservations over the ongoing process of voters’ verification and said despite the verdict of apex court, the electoral rolls are being prepared in the absence of Army personnel.“If the Army was not supervising the process of voters’ verification, then the irregularities would found again in the preparation of voters’ lists,” they feared.They further added the government was completely silent over the situation and not taking any step in this regard which seems a conspiracy to tarnish the image of Pakistan Army.Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member of central executive committee, Firdous Shamim Naqvi has said that PPP and PML-N are two different faces of a same faction.He said both the parties act in accordance with strengthening of the status-quo. As the homework meant for general elections, they are gathering groups with similar concerns. Having faith in either is like deliberately stepping on flames.In a noteworthy meeting with party workers in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Firdous Shamim encouraged the addresses for the blown wind of change. He said, “This time the awaken nation would not be distracted by the filthy tricks. These illicit and ineligible forces cannot face tsunami. The future of Pakistan belongs to the youth and they have made their mind to vote wisely. Young brains and logically experienced masses are the voters of the PTI.” He forces that the people of Pakistan would vote for the sincere, honest and courageous leadership and as a result the PTI would be authorised to serve the nation.He explained that Imran Khan’s intentions of preferring the people of Pakistan instead of joining the status-quo elements PTI leader enlightened that the youth has to play a vital role in coming elections for the future.REGULARISATION OF LHWS HAILED: Commissioner Hashim Raza Zaidi has hailed the regularisation of over 100,000 lady health workers in the country.The approval in this regard has been accorded by Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf.The Commissioner Karachi was optimistic that the regularization of the LHWs would play a key role towards the eradication of polio in the country.He hoped that the LHWs would now perform their duty with more vigour and commitment. Zaidi said that regularization of the service was a standing demand of the LHWs. He stated that the decision of the government in this regard was in public interest. He also asked the administration officials to accord priority to the anti-polio drive and ensure that every child up to five years of age is administered polio drops.This task should be performed as a national duty, he further stressed.
