KARACHI - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader and MNA, Asad Umer has said that party chief Imran Khan has accepted the debate challenge of a Jang group owner Mir Shakilur Rehman.
Imran Khan is ready to answer all questions with proofs and is waiting for Mir Shakil to come and debate.
Addressing a press conference at PTI media cell office here on Wednesday, Asad Umer said the federal government was going to increase the electricity rates in July which would force the PTI to start protests in the parliament and on the streets also.
He said allegation on him and Shafqat Mehmood regarding Aman Ki Aisha was wrong and baseless. “We were only the members and had nothing to do with the administrative and financial matters,” he added. Asad said the PTI was staging protest over the massive rigging in general elections of 2013 and the party never wants to derail democracy in the country.
Our protest goal is to empower Election Commission and make the institutions independent. PTI is also making efforts in the parliament for independence of Election Commission as an autonomous body which will hold the next election free, fair and transparent so that people can able to elect their own representatives.
The PTI leader said before coming into power, PML-Nawaz leadership promised the nation that it bring the country out of the energy crisis and build the economy strong but it failed to fulfill its promises. He said the government laid the foundation stone of power project in Gadani and Punjab but they have no idea about the pace of work on these projects. “Pakistan is the only country in South Asia that has been using the electricity on expensive rates,” he added.
To a question, he said federal government allocated 480 billion rupees to overcome the energy crisis while Rs300 billion circular debt and Rs200 billion were allocated for the IPPs. No one is aware about the spending of these grants. Government, instead of solving the issues, is working on the recursion policies, he added. He further informed the PTI do not expect that people will find relief in the upcoming budget.
Terming the Jang group enemy of the country, he said motives behind spreading negative propaganda against the national security agency by the Jang group should be investigated.
PTI Sindh chapter leader Nadir Akmal Laghari, MNA Dr Arif Alvi, PTI Karachi president Najeeb Haroon, MPA Hafizuddin Khan, Khurram Sher Zaman and other leaders were also present on the occasion.
