‘Army deployment not an issue for PPP’

KARACHI - PPP leader and Sindh Prisons Minister Manzoor Wassan here on Wednesday submitted complaints before the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) regarding alleged anomalies in voter lists.He met with the CEC (r) Justice Fakhuruddin G Ibrahim at his camp office in provincial election commission here in the city and submitted the complaints and proofs of the anomalies in the voters list in his constituency of Khairpur district.After the meeting with CEC, Wassan told the media that he raised some important issues including dual entry of voters in the electoral lists especially the entry of voters’ names at more than one place.He said that he had given the proofs of the anomalies and appealed to the Chief Election Commission to take notice of the complaints regarding fake national identity cards.To a question, Sindh minister said that the government would not have any objection if the Election Commission calls army for maintaining peace during the election. Wassan said that the government would negotiate with coalition partners for care-taker set-up.Meanwhile, the founder of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre, Dr Ruth Pfau, visited the Greenwich University here.An official of the institution said on Tuesday that Dr Ruth Pfau was given a standing ovation by the students of the University.Addressing the students, Dr Ruth Pfau called upon the students to serve the humanity by taking part actively in community development. She told the students that ‘in whichever field you work, work with passion. Dr Ruth said, “If you work with passion you will enjoy and will have a feeling of satisfaction.” She asked the students that if you have any skills which you think will benefit the society, give it to the society. Dr Ruth said that Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre is working for Leprosy elimination, TB and Blindness control and Community Development for the last 56 years. It is a non profit, non sectarian organization registered under the Societies Act.She said that Leprosy had been controlled in Pakistan and added that a well-knitted network of 157 control centres nationwide mostly in remote areas is functioning in close collaboration with provincial governments and providing services to the patients and communities free of charge.Later, a question-answer session was held, followed by presentation of shield to Dr Ruth Pfau by the management of Greenwich University.Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will observe November 23 as the Solidary Day with the people of Gaza. Peaceful demonstrations will be held after the Friday prayers by the MQM in order to express solidarity with the oppressed and helpless people of Gaza, said a statement issued by MQM on last Tuesday evening. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Rabita Committee. MQM chief Altaf Hussain has also endorsed the decision to observe the Solidarity Day.Talking to the Rabita Committee at Nine Zero, Altaf Hussain appealed to the people of Pakistan to observe 8th Muharram (Friday) as a day of solidarity with the people of Gaza. He asked them to hold peaceful demonstrations in their cities and tell the people of Palestine that they were not alone. Let them know that the people of Pakistan were strongly with them, he added.
