MQM man among four gunned down

KARACHI – Four people including an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were gunned down in the current wave of target killing while a body of a young man was found from Korangi.Tension prevailed in old city areas after the unidentified armed men gunned down a worker of the MQM near his house in Jodia Bazaar in Kharadar police precincts. Deceased identified as Gulraiz Jamal, 25, was the former worker of the Sunni Tehreek and he had recently joined the MQM and was currently associated with the MQM Lyari sector. His body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi where score of MQM workers reached and shouted slogans against the incident. SSP South Asif Ejaz Sheikh said victim sustained six bullets and initially police termed it as a target killing incident. All major markets and shops were closed due to uncertain condition of the locality.Separately, a body of youth, who has yet to be identified, was found near the Qayyumabad Road within the remits of Korangi Industrial Area. Police officials said that the hands and legs of the victim were tied with ropes while he was strangled to death. SHO Malik Ayub said that victim’s neck was tied with ropes and he wore green Shalwar Kameez. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later moved to morgue for identification.A police constable, namely Rana Yaqoob was injured as at least two armed motorcyclists attacked him and his companion policeman near Old Subzi Mandi within the limits of PIB Colony police station. Police officials said that the police personnel were on routine checking and the incident took place when they tried to intercept the suspects on a motorcycle. The suspects opened fire at them and managed to escape. Rana Yaqoob was taken to the private hospital where doctors termed his condition critical. SHO Nusrat Hussain Sheikh, however, was suspended by the East Zone DIG Shahid Hayat over the incident.A Rangers personnel and a citizen were injured in armed attack in Nusrat Bhutto Colony within the limits of Shara-e-Noor Jahan police station. Police officials said that at least two armed men shot and injured the citizen, namely Salman Khan when he offered resistance on a robbing bid while the Rangers personnel, namely, Sajjad was wounded when he tried to catch the culprits. They were taken to PNS Shifa and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.Moreover, two people, who were killed at Abul Hassan Isphani Road in the wee hours of Friday, were identified as seminary teachers of Idara Maroof-ul-Quran.Maulana Jamil Qasim, 38, and Maulana Anwar, 30, were gunned down in a spate of target killing near Paradise Bakery in Abul Hassan Isphani Road within the jurisdiction of Sacchal police station. Police officials said that the incident took place when the victims were returning to their home. Two armed riders opened indiscriminate fireng on them. As a result, they sustained multiple bullets. Maulana Jamil died at the spot while Maulana Anwar succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Police officials later shifted their bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.The incident caused of panic and fear in the locality while the heavy contingent of law enforcers was called and deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. According to witnesses, a Rangers mobile was also positioned near the crime scene when the incident took place, however, SHO Azhar Iqbal said that the police was investigating either the Rangers personnel were there or not. He said both the victims were living in the quarters situated within the premises of the Masjid-o-Madarasa Aminia situated near the crime scene and the culprits were chasing the victims.No case was registered as the police were waiting for the complainants while their bodies were sent to their hometown Azad Kashmir for burial.
