Karachi: 4 TTP operatives  perish in police shootout

KARACHI - Police claimed to have killed four TTP operatives during a targeted operation in the defunct organisation’s dominated area while an alleged outlaw was killed in another encounter in Orangi Town on Sunday.  
According to details, District Malir police said they killed three alleged militants during a search operation in various parts of Gadap Town including Afghan Basti, Deluxe Town and Pioneer Homes. Police said the operation was conducted on tip-off about the presence of some hardcore TTP militants.  Heavy contingent of District Malir police participated in the operation and cordoned off the entire localities.
During the operation, the police force faced massive resistance and indiscriminate firing from the militants. However, the police team retaliated to the situation and killed three militants and detained about one dozen suspects including five foreigners.
The detainees were shifted to undisclosed location for further investigation. The police also claimed to have recovered 15 kg explosives, four hand-grenades and hundreds of bullets. The bodies of the militants were moved to morgue for identification after completing medico-legal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Another militant, who was injured in the encounter, succumbed to injuries when he was trying to flee from the scene with his six other accomplices. The police officials who were following the fleeing militants found the body and shifted it to morgue.
Talking to media, District Malir SSP Rao Anwar said the militants were killed during exchange of fire with police, adding that over 250 police officials, personnel and commandoes participated in the operation.
Separately, a suspect was killed during an encounter with police in Orangi Town. District West SSP Irfan Baloch said the encounter took place when the culprits were snatching cash from a cashier of a local hospital. He said the police personnel on routine patrolling reached the site and killed one of the criminals during an exchange of fire, adding that one police constable was also injured in the shootout. The body of the suspect who has yet to be identified was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
After the Zarb-e-Azab operation is launched by Pak Army in North Waziristan, the law enforcers including Police and Rangers have killed at least 15 militants of the TTP during separate encounters, raids and operation in various parts of the city.
Separately, two people including a woman were killed in separate acts of violence. According to details, a youth was found dead near from Qalandaria Chowk in North Nazimabad within the limits of Sharah-e-Noor Jahan Police Station. The deceased has yet to be identified. His body was moved to morgue for identification after completing medico-legal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said the initial investigation suggested that some unidentified persons after his kidnapping shot him multiple times and later dumped his body.
Similarly, a woman was found dead from Qayyumabad River within the precincts of Ibrahim Hyderi Police Station. Police said the deceased was apparently killed after being kidnapped by unidentified persons who strangled her to death over unexplained reasons. Her body was moved to morgue for identification after completing medico-legal formalities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
