KARACHI - Sindh government has called Army troops to avert any possible terrorism incident looming on the Chehlum day of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) today (Tuesday).
Army troops would be deployed across the province for the security of the processions and Majalis.
There are some 160 small and large processions and at least 170 Majalis scheduled across the City which would be guarded by over 15,000 law enforcers. 
Intelligence agencies have warned about the possible terrorist attack as terrorists can carry out suicide bombings through the improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Sources said the terrorists would introduce some modus operandi to further disturb the peace of the City. It has been indicated the terrorists can use nearby buildings to carry out attacks. Security agencies have directed to search all the buildings and markets on the routes of the processions. Police are using modern technologies to search all the routes while military personnel have been seen on the roads in the City.
The armed forces have been called to help the civilian power under the Artilcle-245 of the Constitution. The deployment of Army troops was started from Monday evening and it will be completed by Monday night. These troops will be deployed as part of the Quick Response Force in the proximity of sensitive areas. Army soldiers will respond in case of any emergency or the third-line force while the primary responsibility will be of the rangers and the police, said the military spokesperson.
Troops will present close to the procession routes to respond quickly in case of any emergency. They will be stationed at the nearby buildings, including schools, colleges and government buildings.
MA Jinnah Road has been closed for the traffic as all entry points along the central procession route have been sealed by erecting barricades and containers. Shops situated along the route of the procession have also been sealed by the police. A team of the bomb disposal unit and Karachi police’s K-9 unit also swept the route ahead of the procession.
Residents living en-route of the main procession have also been asked not to come to their balconies and rooftops where police commandoes with snipers have been deployed to keep their eyes on the terrorists. “Besides deployment of the police and rangers, surveillance cameras have also been installed on the routes of the main procession.”
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has strictly directed the Inspector General of Sindh Police and DG Rangers to ensure foolproof security on the eve of Chehlum of Shuhda-e-Qarbala on Tuesday (today).
The chief minister has further directed the officers to expedite the police patrolling on the main roads and streets especially in the surroundings of mosques, imambargahs and the routes of the mourning processions.
He said the intelligence network should be more activated, snap checking of vehicles in the City and all the entry and exit points of the City should be strictly checked.
The CM advised the general public to cooperate with the LEAs and intimate them about the mysterious vehicles and persons, if any in their knowledge, to the nearest police station.
Qaim has also directed the officers concerned to maintain cleanliness, ensure efficient water supply and clear drainage system at the routes of the mourning processions.
