‘Awareness needed about leprosy’

KARACHI – The Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Hashim Raza Zaidi said leprosy disease had been controlled but it was required to launch a campaign for the awareness about the disease in the City.
A seminar was held in Safari Park in connection with the leprosy disease by the KMC on Saturday, which was attended by KMC Administrator Hashim Raza Zaidi, Dr Rithfaow, chief officer of KMC Matanat Ali Khan, Dr Ali Abbasi Medical superintendent of Leprosy Hospital and others.    
While addressing the seminar, Zaidi said different NGOs and institutes should come forward to play their role and literate the people about the diseases and awareness of leprosy disease among the citizens help us to buildup healthy society.
Administrator informed that leprosy patients were taken to picnic annually but the KMC has planned to the picnic scheduled after every three months and KMC will bear the all expenses.
Dr Rithfaow addressing the seminar said we have overcome on leprosy disease in Pakistan, while remaining patients would be recovered soon that will eliminate the disease from the country.
He further added annually 500 patients have reported in Pakistan, while 40 per cent belongs to the Karachi, Leprosy diseases is a treatable.
