Mass Transit System to be completed in 3 phases




KARACHI - The Mass Transit System in the metropolis would be completed in three phases, said Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Friday.Talking to the participants of the management courses at the Governor House here, he said that the Mass Transit System includes mono rail, rapid bus transit and infrastructure and for this the government needs finances and that efforts are being made in this regard. He pointed out that the government is expanding thoroughfares and constructing roads which will help overcome the problem of traffic jams. The governor said that Karachi was well populated and because of this there were more problems in the City.He stated that for overcoming traffic problems the government has constructed many corridors whereas work on some is going on. Ebad said that foreign investors were being invited to invest in the province especially in the city of Karachi.He stated that the Chinese companies were investing here whereas European and Canadian firms also intend to invest here.The governor pointed out that Karachi is the commercial hub of Pakistan which generates 70 percent of the country’s revenue and owing to favourable investment climate here the foreign investors are heading for this metropolis. He said that the government was also giving an attractive package for this sector.Ebad also pointed out that in the fight against terror, Pakistan is a frontline state.He said that in Karachi there are about 150 police stations whereas crime is more in 25 of these police stations. The governor said that President Zardari had directed him that the businessmen and traders be provided full protection. He further stated that under a coordinated planning and strategy the community policing was introduced in some of the areas. “This proved successful and crime rate decreased in those areas. This system would also be introduced in the residential areas,” he added.ENROLMENT IN SINDH UNIVERSITIES INCREASED: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the public sector universities in the province said that there has been an increase in the enrolment in the universities in Sindh. He was talking to the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Javed Leghari, who called on him at the Governor House here on Friday.The Governor pointed out that in some of the universities in the province the enrolment has doubled. With this there is also an increase in the number of universities in the public sector in the province, he added.Ebad pointed out that the country’s first law university is being established in the province of Sindh. He said that a university was also being set up in the city of Hyderabad.The governor also pointed towards the important steps that have been taken. These, he added, were setting up of the Jinnah Sindh Medical university, upgradation of Karachi Dental and Medical College as a university and giving of university status to the Sindh Madressatul Islam.He also appreciated the efforts of the Chairman of the HEC in the realms of higher education and hoped that positive results would come to the fore in this regard.
