Cheaters rule the roost in BSEK supplementary exam

KARACHI – Cheating mafia has become active in the city as the first paper of SSC Part-II (class X) supplementary examination-2012 was held in various examination centres, setup in different towns on Tuesday, TheNation has learnt.This is the first time in the history of Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) that the supplementary examinations are being held before the announcement of the results of the ninth class of science and general groups, a source in the BSEK said. The Board of Secondary Education has setup 44 examination centres for boys and 39 for girls, while as many as 31,000 students have been registered in the supplementary examinations.A leader of school owners association, on a condition of anonymity, said that incompetent students usually appear in the supplementary examination. That is why cheating is much more in the supplementary examinations than annual examinations. This year also, the supplementary examinations were held as per the past practice, he said. Criticising the delay in the announcement of the results, he said that it is quite unusual that the board has held the supplementary examinations before the announcement of the results of the ninth class. As per reports, in various examination centres students were using unfair means freely that speaks volume over the lethargic behaviour of the board of secondary education towards conduction of the supplementary examinations in the Karachi.  On other hand, Board of Secondary Education Karachi has announced that the first paper of SSC Part-II (class X) supplementary examination was held peacefully in the city. “Today, the board conducted the paper of Islamiat and Ethics of Matric Science and General Groups. Chairman BSEK Fasihuddin Khan and Controller Examinations Nauman Ahsan paid surprise visit to Government S M Public School of Nazimabad Town, where a student was caught while using unfair means. Some special vigilance teams also paid visits to different centres. The teams were authorized to take steps for curbing use of unfair means during the examination. The Examination Reporting Centre under the supervision of a senior officer has also been established in Board office to receive complaints and take immediate action.” When the Controller Examinations Nauman Ahsan was contacted by TheNation his cell phone was switched off.
