Kid among 5 hurt in grenade attack


KARACHI - Five persons including a child were wounded when unidentified motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at a tea stall located in Faqir Colony, Orangi Town within the remits of Mominabad police station.People were having Iftar at a tea stall when four culprits hurled a hand grenade and managed to flee. Following the explosion, five persons including a five-year-old child sustained wounds and rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. SP Orangi Town Amir Farooqi when contacted said that culprits were on motorbikes who threw hand grenade and fled.Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies along with the Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to an empty school located in Bismillah Chowk, Baldia Town on bomb hoax call and later cleared the school after thorough search.First PhD in Extragalactic Astrophysics: Mariam Sultana, a lecturer at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) has became the first Pakistani woman who got her doctorate in Extragalactic Astrophysics - an emerging branch of Astrophysics. A FUUAST statement here on Tuesday said that she was supervised by Professor Dr Shahid Qureshi at Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), University of Karachi.HEC foreign faculty Professor Dr S Nuritdinov, also guided her in research work.Her research is based on ‘Mathematical modeling of formation of ring structures in galaxies at early evolution of Universe’. Her work is not only accepted by national institutes but also recognised by Oxford University and University of California, the statement added.
