Two policemen injured in chemical blast

KARACHI - Panic was created among the citizens when a minor explosion was heard inside Risala police station, Nishtar Road, Saddar Town, on Saturday. Two constables were sustained injuries in the blast, said the police. As per details, fear and panic gripped the Karachiities when they heard the explosion news through the electronic media. The blast occurred in the chemical drums placed on the roof the Risalam police station which injured two policemen including Ghulam Yasin, 35, and Abdul Qadir who were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi where the doctors discharged them after providing them medical treatment. Following the explosion, the entire area was cordoned-off by the police and the bomb disposal squad, while a large number of volunteers from different social and welfare associations had also reached the site. Soon after the incident, the officials concerned declared that it was not a terrorist act but a blast which occurred accidentally. Police officials said that some four to five drums were dumped there. They said that it was not a significant incident but owing to prevailing law and order situation and high alert in the province, the police took no chance for the safety of the people. According to the area people, they were busy in their routine works when they suddenly heard heavy blast and they thought that there might be a terrorist attack or a bomb blast in the police station. Soon following the incident, they left their shops while who were driving the car also stop their cars on the roads to save themselves from any untoward tragedy. The police officials told that the Risala police had dumped the potassium chemical inside the police station for their personnel purpose which exploded due to overheat.
