Says SC verdict to be accepted even if it goes against govt

KARACHI - Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervez Rasheed has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aetizaz Ahsan should show proofs of corruption instead of pointing fingers at other political parties.

Commenting on the petition filed in the Supreme Court over Panama papers, the federal minister said, “We will accept the decision of the Supreme Court even it goes against us.”

Talking to the media men here outside the residence of the famous Qawwal, Amjad Sabri, where he had gone to offer Fateha on Monday, he said that it was always in October that conspiracies were hatched against the prime ministers of Pakistan, the tradition, which he said, had been continuing since 1951 when the first prime minister of Pakistan, Khan Liaquat Ali Khan, had been assassinated on Oct 16.

The minister further said that the recent conspiracy was aimed at derailing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He added that the allegations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could now be proved in the apex court, which has admitted PTI’s petition on the issue. “Imran Khan and Aetizaz Ahsan should present evidences before the court rather than creating chaos on roads,” he said, and added that the prime minister had welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the case and it was expected of all the stakeholders that they would wait for the court’s verdict. “We are confident that the court will expose Imran’s false allegations,” he expressed optimism.

Pervez also appealed to the people of Islamabad not to heed PTI leaders and continue their routine activities.

Earlier, the minister visited the residence of slain Qawwal, Amjad Sabri, in Liaquatabad neighborhood and handed over a cheque of Rs10million to his family on behalf of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“The grant has been announced by the prime minister to help meet the academic expenses of Sabri's children,” Pervez said on the occasion.

He admitted that although money could not compensate for the loss of precious human life, but would provide resources to Sabri’s children to complete their education.

Speaking on the occasion, slain Qawwal’s brother Azmat Sabri said that the entire family was thankful to the prime minister that he fulfilled his promise.

“However, the law-enforcement agencies have failed to arrest the assassinators and the masterminds of my brother’s murder despite the passage of several months,” he said, and added, “We do not expect much from the law enforcers. When they have been unable to arrest killers of the slain prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, how would they be able to arrest Amjad’s killers?”
