MQM worker among two shot dead

KARACHI - One MQM worker and a local transporter were gunned down in separate incidents of target killings in different parts of the City on Friday. As per details, in the first incident, four unidentified culprits on two motorbikes shot dead a 32-year-old man, identified as Liaquat Ali son of Shaukat Ali at his residence near Zainab Market, Sector 9-C, Baldia Town within the limits of Saeedabad police station. Police officials said that the incident took place on the wee hours of Friday when the deceased was on his way to home and as soon as he reached the street near his home some unknown armed people shot him. The murderers managed to flee easily from the scene. However, the victim received multiple bullet wounds and was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where doctors pronounced his death. The deceased was married and used to work in a local garment factory, while he was also associated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM unit no 112. Police have registered the case and initiated further investigation to probe the case. Separately, Gulbad khan s/o Turbat Khan, a transporter by profession was gunned down by some unidentified culprits outside his house located at Street no 8, within the limits of Model Colony police station. According to SHO Abid, the deceased hailed from NWFP. He was the president of Malir Water Tankers Association and also ran an estate agency. He left behind five children and a widow. The officer suspected that the unknown culprits killed him over some personal or old enmity. The case against unidentified persons has been registered and further investigation has also been initiated to probe the case, the officer added. In yet another incident, a 25-year-old youth, identified as John Masih son of Joseph Masih was crushed to death while his friend named Amir, 22, son of Farooq got wounded when a speedy truck hit their motorbike no KDK-6983 on early Friday morning. Police officials said that the accident took place when the victims were returning to their homes located at Ittehad Town, Baldia Town after celebrating Christmas night and had reached at Baldia Town no 2. Police, however, claimed to have arrested a driver namely Yaqoob and registered the case against him.
