KARACHI - Five people including a professor were killed in separate incidents here on Tuesday.
Professor Agha Suleman Ali was shot dead in Soldier Bazaar area on late Monday night.
He was shot multiple times by two armed men, riding a motorcycle, outside the Fatmia Hospital. One of his students Asad Ali, who arrived to take him back to home from the hospital, was also wounded in the attack. Police officials said the victim was under treatment at Fatmia Hospital since he was injured in a previous attack on him in Boat Basin area last month. SHO Sohail Sulehri said the victim was a high value target of the culprits who killed him with proper planning. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen condemned the incident.
A youth was shot dead when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire at the public call office (PCO) in Block-D, North Nazimabad.
The victim was identified as Murad Gul, 35. He was shot multiple times. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. SHO Nawaz Gondal said the victim was working at the PCO. Initial investigation suggested he was killed over personal enmity.
A youth Amir Saleem, 22, was found dead from New Karachi area after his family failed to pay the ransom money. Police officials said the victim’s body was packed in a gunny bag. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police officials said unidentified persons kidnapped and shot him dead after torture. SHO Sajid Javed said the victim was associated with the furniture business. He was kidnapped after someone phoned him on February 20. The culprits also made calls to his family and demanded the ransom money.
In another incident, an elderly man was shot dead near Aath Chowk area of Lyari. The victim was identified as Safdar Ali Shah, 65. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital for autopsy. He hailed from Chakwal and was living here at a guesthouse in Lea Market area of Lyari. The victim might have been killed over suspicion of being an informant by gangsters, police officials said
A 75-year-old woman was killed inside her home in Gulshan-e-Ghazi area of Baldia Town. The victim was identified as Ghulab Jan, wife of Ameer Afzal. SHO Enayatullah Marwat said she was strangled to death. Initial investigation suggested that the victim’s son, Irfan and a grandson Saleem were behind the murder. After killing her, they also tried to bury her inside the home. The officer said a case had been registered and further investigation was underway.
