KARACHI - Eight people, among them three policemen, were gunned down in the metropolis on Monday.A cop was shot dead within the remits of the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri Police Station. Identified as Nisar Abbasi, 32, the victim was attacked in North Karachi area. He was heading some where on his motorbike, when a bike-borne armed duo opened fire on him and fled. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him as brought dead. According to SHO Chaudhry Afzal, the victim was stationed at the Special Investigation Unit. In another incident of firing in the wee hours of Sunday, unidentified gunmen, riding a motorbike, sprayed a police mobile with bullets near Nagan Chowrangi, leaving two policemen wounded. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as assistant sub-inspector Nazir Ali and constable Rasheed Ali. The motive behind the murders could not be ascertained. Police officials however said it was a targeted attack. Separately, a man, 29-year-old Imran alias Bata, associated with the defunct Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), was gunned down in New Karachi area. Police officials said that unidentified armed men, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on him while he was standing at a bus stop in Godhra Colony. He received multiple bullets and died on the spot. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police officials suspected that it might be a sectarian killing. Following the incident, tension simmered in the area, and routine and commercial activities came to a halt when unidentified armed men went restored to indiscriminate aerial firing.In another incident, a 26-year-old fisherman, namely Jaseem, son of Mohammad Saeed, was gunned down in Macchar Colony within the remits of the Docks Police Station. His killing triggered a protest on Maripur Road, where angry fishermen set tyres on fire and pelted passing vehicles with stones.Police officials also charged the protesters with batons and fired teargas shells to disperse them. They said that the victim was killed over personal enmity and his killing had nothing with the ongoing wave of violence.Separately, bodies of two supporters of the banned People’s Ammn Committee were found from different parts of Baldia Town. The bodies were later shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where they were identified to be those of 36-year-old Naveed Hanif and Ghulam Nabi, 24.The victims were residents of Lyari and were abducted when they were on their way to Winder, Balochistan. Sack-packed body of a young man was found from Ramswami area. Identity of the victim could not be ascertained. Police officials said that he was shot thrice in different parts of his body. The body was shifted to a morgue for identification after autopsy at the CHK.
