Five fall prey to violence

 KARACHI - Five people, including an activist of the Awami National Party, were gunned down in different incidents of violence on Friday.A vegetable vendor, Abdul Shakoor, was gunned down in Korangi industrial area. Police officials said unidentified gunmen, riding a motorbike, opened fire on him and fled. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. The victim was affiliated with the ANP. Separately, a body was recovered near Bilal Mosque in Korangi area. It was shifted to a mortuary for identification after autopsy at the JPMC.Separately, unidentified burglars gunned down a sock exchange broker. Police officials said the victim, namely Faisal, along with his cousin Talha was heading towards his residence when a bike-borne armed duo intercepted his car on Jamaluddin Afghani Road and tried to loot him. As Faisal offered resistance, one of the bandits opened fire on him. Faisal was fatally wounded. He was rushed to the JPMC, where doctors pronounced him dead. Separately, a shopkeeper killed another over a petty dispute within the jurisdiction of the Sohrab Goth Police Station.Police officials said that Imtiaz Ghopang, a resident of Ayub Goth, had a fight with his neighbouring shop owners Arshad and Zahid over the retail price of chicken. As there came a disagreement during the conversation, Arshad stabbed Ghopang, who died later at a hospital. Arshad was arrested, however.Separately, a twenty-year-old youth, Ahmed, son of Maqsood, was gunned down in Orangi Town. Police officials said the victim was sitting near his house in Madina Colony, when two armed men, riding a motorcycle, sprayed him with bullets. Ahmed died instantly. The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
