KARACHI - Law enforcement agencies claimed to have shot dead nine suspects involved in various criminal activities during separate encounters here on Thursday.
Police claimed to have gunned down four rapists during an encounter with the police in Ganna Mandi area of Sohrab Goth.
DSP Qamar Ahmed said the encounter took place when the police conducted a raid on the information provided by the already arrested accused – Museeb Khan.
“Museeb Khan was arrested on the charges of subjecting a five-year-old girl to rape in Sohrab Goth on Monday,” DSP Ahmed explained. Khan was also killed by his own companions during an exchange of fire by the police. Khan’s companions were also involved in various cases of rapes and gang rapes in the area as well as highway robberies.
The three suspects were killed during an exchange of fire with the police. The bodies were moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsies. The killed suspects were later identified as Museeb Khan, Bismillah alias Tahir, Niaz and Rehman Gul.
On the other side, a worker affiliated with banned outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan was killed in an encounter with the Preedy police in Saddar area. Police said Shahid alias Mama was killed in an encounter on Thursday morning near the passport office. Two hand grenades and a 9mm pistol were also recovered from his possession.
On the other hand, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) claimed that Shahid was the local leader of the party. He was arrested by the police from his house on Saturday but was killed in a ‘fake encounter’. ASWJ Karachi chief Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqui has termed the killing of Shahid an act of ‘extrajudicial killing’. He demanded suo moto from the Chief Justice of Pakistan in this regard. The law enforcers are themselves violating the laws, he said.
Separately, two alleged Lyari gangsters and a Rangers man were killed during an encounter with the Rangers in Lyari area. Police sources said the encounter took place when the rangers conducted targeted raid at the gangsters’ hideout in Lyari. During the encounter, two criminals were killed while the rangers man was also wounded who later succumbed to injuries.
Meanwhile, two street criminals were gunned down at Jinnah Square in Malir City area. Locals said both the suspects were caught by the residents of the area when they were busy looting cash from a passerby. They beat the suspects and later someone from the crowd opened fire and killed them. On the other hand, police officials claimed that police killed them when they were trying to flee after robbing the passerby. Their bodies were later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsies where they were identified as Anwar Raza and Shahnawaz.
