Journalist’s murderer killed in shootout

KARACHI – An alleged assassin succumbed to his gunshot wounds at a hospital following an early Saturday shootout with a police party in Sea View area.
The deceased, namely Liaquat, 35, son of Ghaziuddin, was the prime suspect in the Wali Khan Babar murder case. Babar, a reporter of a local television, was shot dead on January 13 in Liaquatabad area while returning to his residence from office.
Police officials claimed that a a police constable, namely Waqas, was also wounded in the encounter, besides Rashid alias Chamber, an accomplice of Liaquat. They said they were tipped off about the presence of Liaquat in Sea View area.
The officials said that Liaquat and Rashid got wounded when the raiding team repulsed the attack. According to them, the two criminals were supported by four other armed bike riders. Two TT pistols and a motorcycle were seized from them.
SHO Shafiq Tanoli said that Liaquat Ali was wanted to police stations in Mobina Town, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Super Market and Pak Colony in over three dozen cases of targeted killings.

About the Wali Khan Babar murder case, the SHO said two more accused, namely Faisal Mehmood aka Mota and SM Kamran, were at large and were declared as absconders by the court. Further investigation is underway.
