KARACHI - Nine people were gunned down in Karachi on Wednesday.
A police inspector was shot dead in Korangi area. The victim was identified as sub-inspector Sahib Dino, 50. He was posted at the security zone. Gunmen riding a motorbike shot him twice when he was going to duty at Sindh Chief Minister House.
The victim cop died on the spot. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The victim hailed from Khairpur and was living in Korangi police barracks. Police officials said the killing was interlinked with the killing of police personnel that continues in the City.
No case has been registered yet. Police high-ups have suspended Zaman Town DSP Raja Mushtaq and SHO Asadullah Mangi for negligence.
Similarly, an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead when he was sitting at his father’s shop at Sector 1-D near Aligarh Bazaar within the jurisdictions of Orangi Town police station. The victim was identified as Abdullah aka Meji, 30. He was associated with MQM’s Unit-131. Police officials said four armed men riding two motorcycles came and escaped after shooting him multiple times. His body was handed over to the family after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Separately, a security guard of a private hospital was shot dead at Islamia Colony, Orangi Town. He was identified as Muhammad Zahid, 35. The victim was a security guard at Al-Shifa Hospital in MPR Colony. SHO Haq Nawaz said he was sitting at a cold drink shop near the hospital when two veiled men came on a motorcycle and targeted him. The officer said the incident might have been occurred over personal enmity.
In another incident, a grocery shop owner namely Amjad, 35, was shot dead near Gharib Shah shrine in Lyari. SSP Sheraz Nazeer said the victim was sitting at his grocery store when unidentified armed men came and shot him dead.
Similarly, a milk shop owner was shot dead when he was sitting at his shop at Nawa Lane in Lyari. Police officials said the victim had no link with any party or gangster group. He was identified as Imran. SHO Haji Sanaullah said the victim hailed from Bhawalpur and was running his shop in Lyari for the last 12 years. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
A young woman was found dead from an empty plot in Baldia Town. Police officials said the woman was strangled to death over unexplained reasons by unidentified persons after kidnapping. The body was shifted to morgue for identification after medicolegal at Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, two police constables and a doctor were gunned down in different areas of the City on Wednesday night.
Two unidentified armed riders opened indiscriminate fire on two police constables at Sector-11, New Karachi. The assailants escaped from the scene. Police shifted the victims to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. The victim constables Khurram Kamal and Junaid were performing their duty on routine patrolling. Police said the victims were posted at New Karachi police station.
Separately, a doctor was gunned down in an armed attack at his clinic at G-Area, Korangi. Police said two armed men barged into the clinic and targeted the doctor and escaped. Police shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy where the victim was identified as Dr Naseem Jaffri, 50. Police said the victim was a Chest Specialist and also the regional information secretary of Pakistan People’s Party. Police believed the murder was occurred on sectarian grounds.
CRACKDOWN AGAINST ILLEGAL HOARDINGS
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has initiated crackdown against the illegal and immoral hoardings in the City on Wednesday.
Following the directives of KMC Administrator Rauf Akhter Farooqui, the local tax department has started the crackdown.
Initially the department has removed 50 hoardings and signboards from the roadsides of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town. The local tax department said the hoardings and signboards were installed without the permission of the department and several are installed with immoral pictures and graphics.
When this scribe contacted KMC Local Tax Director Akhter Sheikh, he told that the administrator has given the charge to Anti-Encroachment Cell from the Local Tax Department for crackdown.
The AEC officials said the crackdown will continue until the removal of all such hoardings in the City.
Most of such signboards are installed in North Nazimabad Town, Liaquatabad Town, Jamshed Town and several other areas of the City, they added. 
As per the data of Local Tax Department, 128 hoardings are installed in the City illegally while hundreds of them are immoral.
