Chinoy claims raid a morning ‘meeting’ call

CPLC chief Pleads ‘innocence’, refutes allegations

KARACHI - Confusion prevails on the early morning arrival of Rangers at Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Chief’s house here on Tuesday.
According to details, heavy contingent of the Rangers rushed to the house of Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Chief Ahmed Chinoy, in Defence area.
Sources privy to the matter revealed that there has been a contention between the CPLC and Rangers’ special taskforce. Sources pointed out that both the forces have been working on the same subjects - kidnapping for ransom and extortion. Sources further revealed that the Rangers have recently established a task force, expelling the experts of the CPLC.
Chinoy in a press conference declined the news about a raid at his residence. He explained that the Rangers personnel rushed his house to share information about the kidnapping cases. “They arrived at 5:30 in the morning and asked me to meet Colonel Tahir immediately.” Chinoy said he had declined and scheduled the meeting in the morning.
To a question, he said his wife was crying because she got upset seeing the Rangers arrive in the wee hours of the day.
“We have met Colonel Tahir and Rangers Director General Bilal Akber.” Chinoy appreciated the efforts of the Rangers in combating crime in the city, adding there is a third force wanting controversy between the Rangers and the CPLC.
He also reportedly said that those who were expelled from CPLC over negligence were hatching conspiracies against it.
Lariab, who was abducted from Shafiq Mor, Karachi, was also present during the press conference. It was revealed that the kidnappers kept him at different locations where he was tortured.
Interestingly, Rangers claimed to have recovered 24-year-old Lariab from Indus Plaza, Shorab Goth on Monday. Rangers recovered the boy using technical assistance while they refused to give the details about the kidnappers.
On the other side, unconfirmed reports aired by local news channels had claimed that the Rangers conducted a raid at Chinoy’s house and recovered the kidnapped boy and also recovered 1.5 million rupees cash. Rangers’ spokesman was not available to comment. Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain in a statement criticised the Rangers raid at Chinoy’s house. He said all the allegations raised against the CPLC Chief were baseless. He said the Rangers behaviour towards Chinoy was condemnable.
