Mirza orders strict security measures

Karachi (PPI) - A high level meeting was held on Thursday at Central Police Office Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza. It was attended among others by Home Secretary, DG Rangers, Sindh Provincial Police Officer, CCPO Karachi, Additional IG Special Branch, DIG (CID), DIG (West Zone), DIG (South Zone), DIG (East Zone ) and Provincial heads/senior representatives of intelligence agencies. The Home Minister condemned the mayhem in Mumbai in which more than 80 lives have so far been lost. He directed the police to gear up their efforts and to be more vigilant by adopting strict security measures specially keeping in view the terrorist activity in Mumbai. The meeting reviewed at length the law and order situation, particularly in Karachi. The Home Minister directed to orchestrate a workable strategy which should be far reaching and productive. Dr Zulfiqar Mirza stressed upon the police officers to remain impartial in implementing rule of law. "This is the basic responsibility of police and law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order, ensuring protection to lives and properties of law abiding and peaceful citizens," he observed. The chair noted with concern about non-arrest of absconders/accused nominated in various FIRs and directed CCPO, Karachi to prepare comprehensive list of absconders within three days and energise all police stations immediately, as he has planned to visit police stations in Karachi from next week to review the progress in this regard. Dr Zulfiqar Mirza directed the police officers for ensuring timely legal action against the criminals, anti-social elements and miscreants. "No law breaker should be spared at any cost irrespective of any political affiliation", he ordered PPO Sindh and CCPO Karachi. The Home Minister also directed to finalise current recruitment process in Sindh police as soon as possible to strengthen the police force in order to have improved policing system.
