Asks government to declare emergency in Karachi

KARACHI - Lashing out at Sindh government on its performance, Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq said the Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah is old and should be ‘refrigerated’.
“I take pity on the Sindh Chief Minister, because an aged person like cannot take notice of the problems being faced by the citizens,” said Sirajul Haq while addressing a gathering at an Iftar party here.
Regretting at the recent massive deaths in Karachi due to heat wave, Sirajul Haq said flawed policies pursued by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) turned Karachi into ‘Karbala’.
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Pakistan Chief Senator Sirajul Haq demanded the government to declare emergency in Karachi and make all arrangements to provide free drinking water and ice on immediate basis adding that the government that failed to provide relief to people should itself decide about remaining in power.
Siraj expressed these views while talking to media after visiting Al-Kidmat water filtering plant at Rizwan Masjid, Federal B area here on Saturday. JI leaders Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Usama Razi, Abdul Wahab, Abdul Shakoor, Engineer Abdul Aziz, Manzar Alam and other were also present on the occasion.
Siraj said that he was in Karachi since three days and during his visits at various hospitals and meetings with families of heatstroke victims he came to know that the government and concerned authorities were not capable to counter any disaster like situation in the city. He said that citizens appear angry with rulers as all have failed to provide assistance or relief during natural disasters in Karachi. He said that citizen faced lot of trouble including shortage of space in the government hospital, prolonged power outages and acute water shortage that made their lives miserable adding that the rulers should apologise before people come out on roads to express anger over government negligence.
Senator Siraj further said that provincial and federal government is equally responsible for the tragedy and it is matter of great concern that elected representative of the city have failed to resolve the water issue of that is considered to be the basic need of human.
He said that it was regrettable that elected representatives of people were enjoying air-conditions and shifting money abroad but did nothing for people of Karachi. He said that man has landed on moon and people were making queues for water in Karachi. Siraj said that situation is serious and all political parties should jointly struggle to make a better atmosphere in Karachi.
Oblivious minister lauds

The provincial Minister for Local government Sharjeel Inam Memon unaware about the inactive rescue service claimed that rescue ambulances of 1122 are providing better services to masses.
The minister while talking to the media after visiting heatstroke patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, said that rescue 1122 was active in the city since long and it was working better, adding that if people have any problem they can register their complaints around the clock.
Despite claims of the minister, the rescue service has not been started after inauguration of the service in 2013 by former minister local government Syed Owais Muzzaffar while not a single Rescue 1122 ambulance can be seen on the roads of Karachi.
The ambulances of 1122 worth Rs 3.12 billion are rusting at headquarters of city warden, headquarters of KMC and in different town offices of the city.
Over 1500 people lost their lives during the heatwave in the metropolis but the minister was unaware about the rescue service in the city.
