DSP Faiz Shigri laid to rest

KARACHI - Funeral prayers for DSP Faiz Ali Shigri, who was gunned down on Sunday evening, were offered at the Garden Headquarters on Monday.

Shigri’s driver was injured in an armed attack on their vehicle in the jurisdiction of Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Police Inspector General AD Khawaja, city police chief Mushtaq Mehar, CTD chief Sanaullah Abbasi, Rangers Director General Bilal Akbar and scores of Shigri’s relatives and colleague attended the funeral prayers.

Counterterrorism police have registered the case (351/16) of Shigri’s murder on the complaint of his injured driver. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah paid tribute to the slain police officer and vowed to continue the Karachi operation against militants and criminals. He said that such coward attacks could not demoralise the security forces.

DSP Shigri, who was currently working in the traffic police department, was targeted by gunmen in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Initial investigations showed the group involved in the murder of DSP Shigri was also involved in the murder of a member of the Ahmadiyya community in the Kaneez Fatima locality, Abdul Hasan Ispahani Road.

Police officials investigating the murders believe that gunmen involved in both attacks belonged to the same militant group. Police suspect involvement of a banned militant outfit in the two murders.
