Four top squash players in CNS Squash Championship

KARACHI - As many as four foreigners are amongst over fifty squash stars who have registered to play in the PSO-sponsored Chief of Naval Staff International Squash Championship which will begin here from October 30 with pre-qualifying rounds at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex. All the top players of the country would be seen in action in the US dollar 25,000 prize carrying competition. Among the four foreigners are three New Zealand and one from UAE. Kashif Shuja, a former Pakistan international now settled in New Zealand is on the list of foreign entries. Campbell Grayson and Martin Knight are other Kiwis in the fray. Commodore Imtiaz Ahmed, commanding officer PNS Karsaz who is also the tournament director, addressed a news briefing here Tuesday noon at the championship venue to give details of the competition which is part of the professional Squash Association Tour. He said Navy's holding of the event for the last many years was the manifestation of its commitment to the sports and its contribution to regain Pakistan's lost glory in the game. He said it was the pleasure for Pakistan Navy to have Pakistan State Oil standing beside it as major sponsor for the event. Missing from the contestants list would be last year's championship Karim Darwish of Egypt.   Last year's winner Farhan Mahboob of Pakistan has been seeded one with young Amir Atlas Khan as seed two. Manzoor Zaman is seed three, Kashif Shuja of New Zealand, seed four, Yasir Butt seed five, K.Adil Maqbool seed six, Campbell Grayson of New Zealand seed seven and Majid Khan seed eight. Pre qualifying rounds would be played October 30-31 and qualifying round November 1-2. The championship would be played November 3-6.
