KARACHI- Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti on Thursday said that daily killing of 15 to 20 citizens has become a routine and only lip service of the government over the situation reveals that safeguarding vested interests is the only business of the ruling regime.
He expressed these views while expressing his concerns over the rising tide of target killings in the City. He strongly criticised sheltering terrorists on the pretext of reconciliation policy. He added that terrorists had gathered to rule over the country, under the umbrella of so-called ‘reconciliation policy.’ He expressed disappointment over the apathy of the government to maintain peace in the City and said that bloodshed of about a dozen people including women, soon after the assurance of chief minister of the province, was a call for the government to review its policies.
Mehnati held the troika of Pakistan People’s Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party responsible for the bloodshed in the metropolis. He was of the view that the government, which could not ensure the security of lives and possessions, had no right to rule.
He said that the peace in the city could not be restored until and unless the government abandons sheltering terrorists in the name of ‘politics of reconciliation’. He demanded of the government to arrest the culprits and mastermind behind the targeted killings of innocent people and particularly the renowned social worker and JI activist Abdul Rasheed Farooqui.
FAREWELL DINNER: The Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF) hosted a farewell dinner for the outgoing Consul General of Japan, Masaharu Sato yesterday Chairman of PJBF, Sohail Ahmed in his welcome address elaborated upon the relationship between Pakistan and Japan and stressed upon the need to further strengthen the trade and investment sectors. He made comparisons and pointed to the similarities that exist between the two nations in respect of traditions, culture and history.
Consul General Sato in his farewell speech thanked the people of Pakistan in general, and Karachi in particular, for the understanding and cooperation extended to him during his tenure as Consul General in Karachi, also mentioning: “It was a pleasure being here; I liked the hospitality and people of Pakistan.”
While sharing his views about Pakistan he mentions that the country holds a great potential when one looks at the natural and human resources available and he suggested the business community may closely liaise with Japanese businessmen and understand the requirements of the Japanese market in order to excess it. Besides covering the business and economic ties between Pakistan and Japan, he gave an overall view of the exchanges that have taken place between the people of Japan and Pakistan for stronger social and cultural ties.
He mentioned about the proposed visit of their Training Ship “Kashima” to Karachi early next month. Such regular exchanges he said help the  people of the two countries to understand each other better. He also informed of the currently held photo exhibition in Tokyo titled “Pakistan and its People” organised by the Pakistan Association of Photo Journalists.
Lastly, the function was largely attended by most respectable CEO’S and members from a number of business communities also amongst those present were the Board of Directors and members of the Pakistan Japan Business Forum.
