Another 10 dead in Karachi violence

KARACHI - At least 10 people were gunned down in various violent incidents here on Friday.
An activist of MQM, Mazhar Hussain was killed and his companion Naseem was wounded when armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on them in Gulshan-e-Bihar market, Orangi Town. Police officials said the victim was associated with MQM unit 123-A and was an active worker of the party.
Another MQM worker Ejaz Saeed, 25, was shot dead near Ghausia Chowk in Orangi Town. SHO Ahmed Butt said he was associated with MQM’s unit 125 and was working at the garments factory. The incident took place when he was standing closed to his residence and two armed men riding a motorcycle came and shot him dead.
Two friends were killed in a targeted attack in Orangi Town. The victims were identified as 25-year-old Azhar Siddiqui, a rickshaw driver and his friend Haseebur Rehman, 27, an employee of the KESC. SHO Bashir said the victims were the residents of Gabol Colony area of Orangi Town. They were passing through the area on a motorcycle when at least four armed men riding two motorcycles targeted them. They sustained multiple bullets wounds and died on the way to hospital.
A general physician identified as Dr Abdullah Paracha, 65, was shot dead near Five Star Chowrangi. Police officials said he was on his way to home from his clinic located in Paposh Nagar when four armed men on two motorcycles shot him dead. The assailants managed to escape from the scene. Wali Afridi, 32, was gunned down and his son, 4, was wounded in a target killing incident near Naurus Chowrangi. Police said he was the resident of Old Sabzi Mandi area.
He was on his way to home when motorcyclists sprayed bullets on his car. He died on the spot while his wounded son was rushed to hospital where doctors termed his condition out of danger.
A Lyari gangster identified as Habib aka Anda was shot dead near Lasbella. SHO Safdar Mashwani said he was affiliated with the outlawed Peoples Amman Committee and police had been looking for him. The officer said initial investigation suggested that the victim’s companions were killed him over personal dispute.
Naseeb Zada, 55, was shot dead near Kati Pahari. Police officials said the victim was working as a driver in a private firm. Initial investigation suggested that he was killed over personal enmity.
In another incident, Korangi police found the bodies of a woman and her daughter from inside their house situated in Korangi locality. The victims were identified as Gulshan Bibi, 35, and her six-year-old daughter Eemaan. Gulshan Bibi’s another daughter Minu, 9, was also found with critical injuries. The bodies of the woman and Eeman were found from her bedroom while Minu was found injured from the underground water tank. Their relatives found them dead and injured, and informed the police. Gulshan Bibi’s two more daughters and a son were remained safe. SHO Abbas Kolachi said the victims were killed over some personal reason.
Meanwhile, tension spilled over in Defence area after unidentified persons threw a hand grenade on the residence of local jeweller in Phase-V, Khayaban-e-Shamsher. Upon reacting information, police officials reached the site and collected evidences. SHO Ahsan Zulfiqar said two armed men riding a motorcycle threw hand grenade. Initial investigation suggested that armed extortionists attacked the house of prominent jeweler Haji Ismail over refusal of giving extortion money. Further investigation was underway.
